The Boone County Health Department’s project seeks to increase WIC awareness and participation among their priority population by addressing identified barriers to participation, including transportation, language, technology, mistrust of governmental agencies, as well as added racial/ethnic inequities.

This comprehensive project combines innovative WIC outreach, data matching, a mobile WIC on Wheels unit, and expanding partnerships with grocery stores and the faith-based community.

Boone County Health Department’s project prioritizes equitable community and client engagement in training, program development, and hiring, as well as in their use of peer navigators from the priority population with lived experience. This project has many innovative features that will modernize WIC and provide replicable models and best practice case studies.
