Cumberland County Department of Public Health’s (CCDPH) project aimed  to raise awareness of WIC and reduce barriers to participation for families on the Fort Liberty  Army installation and military community in Cumberland County.

CCDPH used community-level data and innovative food access partnerships to amplify outreach and effectively reduce barriers to participation.

Through a unique community coalition, Fort Liberty  Public Health Partnership, CCDPH  worked alongside Fort Liberty Department of Public Health, the University of North Carolina (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to identify WIC messaging that is relevant for military staff and develop processes for enrollment and engagement in WIC.

The project is a model to support WIC-eligible military families throughout the U.S.
